About Marina Mirage Marina
Few stretches of Queensland waterfront have changed hands and character as often as The Spit at Main Beach, and Marina Mirage Marina sits at the centre of that story. The basin occupies deep water on the western side of the peninsula, facing the Gold Coast Broadwater with the surf beach a few hundred metres over the dunes. Developer Christopher Skase built the original Marina Mirage precinct in the late 1980s; Adelaide shopping centre operator Con Makris bought it through a receiver's sale in 2013, and the Makris family has since rebuilt the marina itself, completing 76 new floating berths in late 2021. Those berths take vessels from about 12 metres through to superyachts of 70 metres and beyond, and the marina has quietly become one of the preferred Broadwater addresses for large motor yachts, helped by four metres of water at LAT and a location five minutes from the Gold Coast Seaway. The character is distinctly private: a dedicated superyacht arm sits behind security gates, crew mingle with hotel guests along the boardwalk, and the precinct's restaurants and boutiques wrap around the basin. That precinct is itself mid-transformation. A roughly 500 million dollar Makris Group redevelopment will deliver Marina Mirage Gold Coast, a 126-room Luxury Collection resort under the Marriott banner, plus 38 residences, a wellness centre and new dining and retail, with completion targeted for 2029 ahead of the Brisbane Olympics. The marina keeps operating through the works, which makes it something of a rarity: a functioning superyacht berth sitting inside Australia's largest current waterfront construction site.

Berthing is the core offering: 76 floating berths on modern pontoons, catering to vessels from 12 metres up to superyachts of 70 metres, with deep water maintained to about four metres at LAT. Berths are offered on casual and permanent terms, and the marina actively courts superyacht visitation with a dedicated arm monitored by CCTV and controlled through security gates, backed by night security patrols. Shore power runs to 250 amps, water is supplied at the berth, and high-speed fibre connectivity serves both guests and crew. A sewage pump-out service is available, and private amenities include showers and laundry facilities reserved for berth holders. The on-site concierge team is the operational hub, handling berthing allocations, provisioning support, transport and itinerary planning, and the marina can arrange convenient access to customs and immigration clearance for internationally arriving vessels, with the Gold Coast's Port of Entry facilities close by at Southport Yacht Club. Premium car parking sits adjacent to the berths, berth holders have access to a 24-hour gym on site, and helipad access is available for crew and guest transfers. What sets the marina apart from a bare berthing operation is the surrounding precinct: until the redevelopment works closed most of the shopping village, more than 50 retail, bar and restaurant options operated on the doorstep, and waterfront dining continues in staged form while construction proceeds toward the 2029 completion of the new Marriott-flagged resort. Bookings and rate discussions run directly through the marina office on 07 5555 6480; published rack rates are not advertised, which is standard practice at this end of the market, and larger vessels are encouraged to enquire well ahead of peak season.
Local sailing knowledge
Approach is via the Gold Coast Seaway, the stabilised entrance between South Stradbroke Island and The Spit, then south past Wave Break Island into the main Broadwater channel; the marina sits roughly five minutes inside the seaway on the western shore of the peninsula, clear of the worst of the weekend traffic. The seaway itself demands respect in onshore winds against a run-out tide, and VMR Gold Coast monitors VHF 16 for arrivals unsure of conditions. Once inside, the Broadwater is sheltered in all but strong easterlies, and the marina's basin is well protected. Crews rate the location highly for respite: the patrolled surf at Main Beach is a short walk across the park, Tedder Avenue's cafe and dining strip is ten minutes on foot, and Sea World sits just up the drive. For cruising, the southern Broadwater and the Jumpinpin channel offer day anchorages, South Stradbroke's western shore has sheltered sandy anchorages with wallabies ashore, and the full run down the inside passage to Brisbane is an easy two-day hop. Superyacht captains use the marina as a base for itineraries south to Sydney or north through the Whitsundays, with the Coomera refit precinct, including The Boat Works and Gold Coast City Marina, half an hour upriver for haul-out work the marina does not attempt in-house. Watch for the sand bypass jetty structure off the seaway's northern wall, expect heavy recreational traffic on summer weekends, and book ahead during the Gold Coast's major events when superyacht berthing across the city fills quickly.
