About Ephraim Island Marina
Ephraim Island is a 9.6-hectare man-made island in the Gold Coast Broadwater, reached by a guarded bridge from Paradise Point, and its marina is woven into the residential estate rather than operating as a public facility. Developed by Lewis Land, the group behind the neighbouring Sovereign Islands, the island pairs apartment towers and waterfront housing with parkland, patrol security and about 115 private floating berths of 10 to 15 metres, all enjoying direct, bridge-free access to the Broadwater's dredged channels. Berth ownership is restricted to island lot owners, which gives the marina the character of a private club: the same names appear on the pens and the letterboxes, and the security gate keeps casual traffic out. The precinct has flirted with the big-boat end of the market for years. Neighbouring Sovereign Islands added seven 30-metre concrete superyacht berths back in 2012, and AMT Marine has since marketed short and long-term berthing at the precinct for vessels from 10 to 30 metres. The next chapter is now approved: The Sovereign Collection, a luxury apartment project on The Sovereign Mile, will replace the existing marina at the entrance to the islands with a 32-berth superyacht facility taking vessels to 100 feet, complete with a restaurant, wine bar and wellness centre. For now, Ephraim Island Marina remains what it has been since the mid-2000s: a sheltered, gated, residential harbour with some of the calmest berthing on the northern Gold Coast. Paradise Point itself has shifted over the same period from a quiet fishing and holiday village into one of the Gold Coast's prestige addresses, and the island's berths have appreciated accordingly.
Marina facilities
Berthing is the core service, and it is arranged on a residential model. The approximately 115 pens are floating berths of 10 to 15 metres with power and water connected at each, and depth alongside runs about two to three metres at low water with negligible tidal flow, so lines stay quiet. Berths trade and lease through local agents much like real estate, because that is what they are: listings have included 12-metre pens around the $28,000 mark and 20-metre single pens pitched at owners wanting room around a bigger boat, with power and water to the site and bridge-free egress. Within the estate, berth holders have access to wi-fi, showers and toilets, a swimming pool and food options, and the whole island sits behind 24-hour gated security with concierge services for residents. AMT Marine, based on The Sovereign Mile at Paradise Point, handles short and long-term berthing for vessels from 10 to 30 metres, including superyacht-style bookings, and acts as the on-water broker for the precinct. What the marina does not have is just as defining: there is no fuel wharf, pump-out station, travel lift, hardstand or chandlery on the island. Fuel is taken at public wharves around the Broadwater, at Runaway Bay or Southport, and haul-outs mean a run south to the Coomera marine precinct or Southport's boatyards. Casual public berthing is not part of the model; this is an owners' marina with body-corporate management, where visiting arrangements run through the estate or the berthing broker. The approved redevelopment will add 32 heavy-duty berths for vessels to 30 metres alongside the new apartments, shifting the precinct further toward the superyacht trade.
Local sailing knowledge
The Broadwater is the reason people keep boats here. From the marina entrance it is a straight run into the main dredged channel, with no bridges or locks between the berth and open water, and the choices fan out quickly: north up Tipplers Passage to Jumpinpin and the sheltered anchorages off South Stradbroke Island, or south past Wave Break Island to the Gold Coast Seaway at Southport for ocean access. The Seaway is the region's only safe bar and is well marked, but it still demands respect on the ebb against a south-easterly. Closer to home, the island's position off Paradise Point puts one of the Gold Coast's better village strips a short walk or dinghy ride away, with cafes, restaurants, a park foreshore and weekend markets along the esplanade. Wave Break Island and the Currigee anchorage handle overnight stops in most weather, and Jacobs Well and Tipplers serve the weekend crowd heading north. Fishing in the Broadwater produces flathead, whiting, bream and mud crabs, with the deeper holes around the Seaway holding trevally and mulloway. For anything mechanical, the Gold Coast's marine industry concentrates around Coomera, where the Gold Coast City Marina and The Boat Works complex offer lifts, hardstands and every trade, roughly twenty minutes away by water. Southport's Broadwater parklands, fuel wharves and the Spit lie about twenty minutes south by water. Tidal flow inside the Broadwater runs hard around the narrows at Jumpinpin, so first-timers heading north should time their passage, but day-to-day berth access at Ephraim Island is as simple as Gold Coast boating gets.
