Calypso Bay Marina forms the centrepiece of a master-planned waterfront estate at Jacobs Well, roughly halfway between Brisbane and the Gold Coast, where the mainland faces southern Moreton Bay across a web of mangrove channels. The marina has grown in stages over two decades: Bellingham Marine built the early basins, then returned to add stages three and four, delivering around 110 new concrete pontoon berths for vessels from 12 to 20 metres and taking the total past 200 pens ranging up to 30 metres. The result is a marina that still feels new, with matched hardwood wales, even freeboard and modern service pedestals rather than the patched-together look of older Queensland harbours. Its position on the main navigation channel between the Gold Coast Broadwater and Moreton Bay is the real selling point: a boat can clear the marina and be in open water within minutes, with Jumpinpin, the southern bay islands and the Broadwater all in easy reach. The clientele is a mix of estate residents who walk from their front doors to their pens, Brisbane owners who keep boats here to avoid the city's crowded ramps, and a steady trickle of cruisers using the visitor pontoons as a stopover on the inside passage. Shoreside life orbits the residents' Leisure Club, with its pool, gym, tennis courts and cafe, and Harrigan's Drift Inn, the Irish pub beside the marina that functions as the estate's de facto yacht club. It is a quiet, tidy, residential-scale marina rather than a commercial hub, and that is precisely its appeal.

The berth mix covers monohulls and multihulls from 10 to 30 metres, including dedicated multihull pens, single pens, jetski berths and visitor pontoons, all on floating concrete pontoons with power and water delivered through modern M-Tech marine pedestals. Pricing is published, unusual for Queensland marinas: the rate card effective from July 2025 runs monthly, quarterly, half-yearly and annual terms, with a standard 10-metre pen at $950 a month or $6,100 a year, a 15-metre monohull pen at $1,225 monthly or $9,600 annually, and multihull and wide-beam surcharges applied at 1.75 times the regular rate; a $500 refundable security deposit applies per berth. Security runs 24 hours with daily patrols, CCTV and gated access across the estate. A sewage pump-out station serves the pens, wifi covers the marina, and showers and toilets are available for berth holders and visitors. There is no fuel dock, travel lift or shipyard inside the basin; the nearest fuel is at Horizon Shores Marina about fifteen minutes by boat, and haul-out work heads to the Coomera River yards or the Broadwater marinas. What Calypso Bay substitutes is lifestyle infrastructure: berth holders tap into the estate's Leisure Club with its 25-metre pool, children's pool, 24-hour gym, tennis courts, function rooms and cafe, and Harrigan's Drift Inn, beside the marina, covers the pub meal and cold beer end of boating life. The marina office at Harrigans Lane manages berthing enquiries, casual stays and the visitor pontoons directly, and casual berthing is available subject to vacancy. Trailer boats use the Jacobs Well public ramps nearby rather than any ramp inside the estate.
Local sailing knowledge
Jacobs Well sits at the junction of the Broadwater's northern channels and southern Moreton Bay, and the marina's approach is about as forgiving as Queensland boating gets: a marked channel with good depths, negligible tidal flow at the dock and no bar or bridge between the berth and open water. The catch is the surrounding shoal country. The channels around Jacobs Well, Cabbage Tree Point and the Jumpinpin bar are banked with sand and mud that shifts after floods, and locals treat the leads as gospel, particularly on the big ebb tides that drain the system quickly. Jumpinpin itself, the unimproved ocean entrance between North and South Stradbroke Islands, is for experienced skippers in settled weather only; most ocean traffic uses the Gold Coast Seaway to the south. The cruising ground on the doorstep is outstanding for its uncrowded feel: Tipplers Passage, the Never Fail Islands, Dux and the Bedrooms anchorages on South Stradbroke's western shore, and the sand flats and creeks that hold flathead, whiting and mud crabs. Harrigan's Drift Inn is the social hub and does a reliable counter meal; for serious provisioning, Pimpama and Coomera shopping centres are ten to fifteen minutes by road. The estate's cane-country origins show in the flat farmland behind the mangroves, and the whole area has kept a village scale despite the M1 corridor growth around it. Weekends bring trailer traffic to the Jacobs Well ramps, but the marina basin itself stays calm. For cruisers running the inside passage between Brisbane and the Gold Coast, Calypso Bay is the logical overnight: secure, cheap by coast standards, and well placed to catch a morning tide north.
